Profile of System |
| Lake Charles Transit System (LCTS) was established in 1969 to provide public transportation to the city’s population. LCTS provides fixed-route and demand-response (paratransit) service within the city service area, which is the entire corporate limits. The City Council sets policy for LCTS, with a transit manager responsible for policy implementation and day-to-day management of transit operations. In addition to the transit manager, LCTS employs 14 full-time bus drivers, two mechanics, and three administrative personnel. LCTS operates out of the City’s Public Works Maintenance Facility. LCTS operates four buses on four routes, while providing next day, demand-response service with two paratransit shuttles. Users of the paratransit service must fill out an application to be considered eligible for ridership. All vehicles are ADA accessible. The system operates between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays except on public holidays. Plans are currently underway to implement the purchase of four new buses to replace older buses. |
