Profile of System

The Livingston Council on Aging has been providing transportation services in Livingston Parish since 1974. During the first few years transportation was provided by volunteer drivers who were paid mileage. In August 1975 the Council on Aging received Title XX funds for transportation, still using volunteer drivers. In July 1978 the Council on Aging received its first 16 (b)(2) van from the Department of Transportation and Development. With this van they hired their first driver. Early in 1980 the Livingston Council on Aging, under the sponsorship of the Livingston Parish Police Jury began offering public transportation service through the Section 18 Rural Transportation Program. The fleet has grown to four vans, lift-equipped; two min-vans and two sedans.

Transportation is provided to destinations including the senior meal site, medical offices, drug stores, shopping areas, and social service agencies.
