Profile of System

Since 1906, the City of Monroe has operated the Monroe Transit System (MTS). Twelve scheduled fixed routes serve the Monroe area. MTS' fleet is 100% ADA accessible, and MTS also offers demand response paratransit service through its DIAL-A-VAN program for persons unable to use the fixed route service. Persons must qualify for DIAL-A-VAN service and schedule transportation 24 hours in advance.

Profile of System

The West Ouachita Public Transportation System began operation in 1983 to provide safe, courteous, clean, reliable and cost effective transportation service to the residents of western Ouachita Parish. West Ouachita Public Transit (WOPT) has successfully fulfilled this mission for over 20 years by providing transit access within the service area to medical, employment, shopping, and other non-emergency vital destinations.

WOPT also provides specialized, contractual services, and after hours services. Information pertaining to transportation services may be obtained by calling 318-324-1280 Monday – Friday, between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

To ensure your safety, all transportation drivers and staff members have required licenses, receive DOT driver safety training, and participate in required drug testing. Vehicles are wheelchair accessible and meet DOT safety specifications. West Ouachita Public Transit is committed to the safe operation of its vehicles, including the safe boarding and unboarding of passengers. WOPT does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sex, ethnicity, religion, or disability.

Route information: WOPT offers demand-responsive and subscription-deviated service to vital non-emergency destinations in Ouachita Parish. Origins must be in western Ouachita Parish and destinations must be within established boundaries in Ouachita Parish. WOPT provides curb to curb services only.

Base Fare:All passengers must purchase a ticket. All fares are based on one-way trips within Ouachita Parish. Fares are given to the driver prior to departure of vehicle, not after the trip. Passengers may purchase tickets only from the driver or from the WOPT office at 1800 N. 7th Street.

Children under 3 ride free when confined in a federally approved child restraint seat and accompanied by an adult.
