Profile of System

Pointe Coupee Council on Aging (PCCOA) started providing transportation to the elderly in 1975 with two cars. PCCOA received its first van in 1982 through the 16(b)(2) Elderly and Disabled Program. With growing demands for public transportation PCCOA applied for a Section 18 Rural Public Transportation grant from the Department of Transportation and Development under the sponsorship of the Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury. Ridership increased significantly with the implementation of this program. Transportation is provided for the general public, elderly and disabled, non-emergency medical, and employment and training.

Pointe Coupee Parish Transit ridership is growing daily. A fleet of five vans operates five days a week to meet the transit needs of parish residents to all destinations within Pointe Coupee Parish. The fleet will increase to six this year.

Pointe Coupee Parish Transit
(PCPT) provides non-emergency medical transportation to all residents of the parish. This is a demand-responsive service which is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations for service may be made upon space available. PCPT is equipped to accommodate disabled passengers.
