La. 523 Widening Project update
Friday, February 05, 2010
The La. 523 Widening Project is now on Facebook! Once you create a Facebook account, you can access up-to-date project information by entering “La. 523 Widening Project” into the search field.
For statewide traffic and road conditions visit our 511 page. You can also get traffic updates by dialing 511 from your phone.
Crews have completed pouring new concrete lanes on the east end of the La. 523 project. Soon, drivers will be able to drive on these new lanes while crews work on building the westbound lanes and the new center turn lane.
Construction on the two westbound lanes of the Pierre Bayou Bridge is almost complete. Soon, traffic on the west end of the project will be placed on the two westbound lanes of the bridge so crews can work on the two eastbound lanes of the bridge.
The lane shift on the west end of the La. 523 Project will occur near the Live Oak Retirement Home. The lane shift for the east of the project will take place at the railroad tracks at La. 1.
Crews continue to work on the La. 523 / La. 3132 interchange. These newly-paved lanes should be open for traffic mid-March.
On Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6, La. 523 will be closed at the La. 1 intersection so that the Union Pacific Railroad can replace the tracks in anticipation of the new 5-lane roadway tie-in at La. 1.
Traffic entering and exiting some streets, driveways, businesses and subdivisions will be temporarily inconvenienced while we work around driveways. If your business or residence has two entrances/exits, one entrance/exit will be closed temporarily during construction operations, but the other entrance will remain open allowing access to your business or residence. If your business has one entrance/exit, we will maintain traffic in and out of the business or residence while crews work across the driveway.
Motorists should expect delays, and we ask that you proceed through the project with caution. Be on the lookout for flaggers and construction traffic entering and exiting the highway, side streets and driveways.
All above mentioned work schedules are subject to change due to adverse weather. Please see public notices for exact times, dates and cancellations.
