BATON ROUGE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) will hold a public meeting for the La. 64 Magnolia Bridge replacement project on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Greenwell Springs Baptist Church, located at 19421 Greenwell Springs Road.
The meeting is being held to allow the public to learn more about the project and to sign-up to receive periodic e-mail updates on the project’s progression. Representatives from DOTD and L & A Contracting Co. will be in attendance to provide information on the project and answer any questions.
Work on the $19.9 million project involves replacing the existing two-lane La. 64 Amite River Bridge at Magnolia with a new four-lane bridge. The project will be built to the north of the existing bridge. Traffic will remain on the existing bridge until construction is complete. The new bridge will have two 12-foot lanes in each direction and 10-foot outside shoulders. Nearly 26,000 drivers cross the bridge each day. Construction will begin in October and will last until fall 2012. The contractor is L & A Contracting Co. of Hattiesburg, Miss.
