The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) today advised motorists that the I-10 “twin span” bridge between Slidell and New Orleans is closed to all oversize and overweight permit loads until further notice.

After the “twin spans” were damaged by Hurricane Katrina, two lanes of the four-lane bridge were reopened to traffic on Oct. 14. The department closed the road to oversize and overweight vehicles to reduce traffic delays on the road, which is a major route to and from New Orleans.

For more information on permits, please call DOTD’s Weights and Standards and Truck Permit Office at 1-800-654-1433. The office will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25.
