I-12 Corridor Master Plan
I-12 is an 85 mile east–west route from Baton Rouge to Slidell. It serves as a strategic bypass to I-10 and was constructed to help reduce congestion through New Orleans. It supports both freight and passenger movement across the Gulf Coast connecting key cities and intersecting major routes — I-10, I-55, U.S. 190, and I-59 — while providing access to ports, airports, and rail facilities that support regional commerce. I-12 is also an evacuation route and serves as a critical link for emergency preparedness and local mobility. The I-12 Corridor Master Plan study area includes all of I-12 along with the 7-mile segment of I-10 from I-59 to the Mississippi state line.
About the I‑12 Corridor Master Plan:
- The I-12 Corridor Master Plan will evaluate existing and future conditions along the corridor.
- Key focus areas include safety, infrastructure gaps, congestion and ITS needs.
- An online public survey and stakeholder engagement will help shape the study’s goals and provide insight into corridor needs.
The plan will guide future investments through a prioritized list of improvements and implementation strategies including identifying potential funding sources, to support those improvements.
